|What is a Name Day?|
In many countries, people don't just have a birthday but a name day as well.
Usually, each first name is assigned to one day of the calendar which corresponds to the feast day of a Saint. On that day you should wish that person "Happy Name Day" perhaps using our free e-card service. The best thing about name days is that you don't need to know your friend's birthday, just their name, in order to send them a greeting.
In some countries, such as Poland, there are several days for one name. In that situation, the name day is usually the closest one after the person's birthday. That means you'll also need to know your Polish friend's birthday in order to know when to wish them Happy Name Day.
The name days we've assigned to English names are the result of months of investigation into Saint's Feast Days and equivalent name days in other countries. Where we couldn't find an exact match, the closest name was used to assign the name day. If you think we got something wrong then please email.
If you don't find an English name in the list, then you can request a name day and we'll add it to the list.
